"Künstleratelier" Niederösterreich, Krems

The Liechtenstein Office for Culture is delighted to be involved in the European cultural exchange with the ‘Lower Austria Artist-in-Residence Programme’. This programme enables local artists to take up a studio residency in Krems. A living and working studio in the center of the Krems art mile, in the vicinity of the Kunsthalle Krems, the Landesgalerie Niederösterreich and the Karikaturmuseum Krems, will be available from 2026.

The residency is offered in the fields of fine arts, digital art and performance. The awarded studio flat is intended exclusively for personal use and is authorized for one person. It is fully equipped, but not barrier-free. The keeping of animals is not permitted. (Exception: assistance dogs). Artists and artist collectives are welcome to apply for a residency. However, this does not change the amount of the grant (max. 4 persons).

The grant is awarded by the Office for Culture in co-operation with a specialist commission in the form of a residency grant and is supported by the Province of Lower Austria with a grant of EUR 3,900 for 11 weeks (2 sessions). The granted duration of stay of 11 weeks must be guaranteed with at least 80% attendance by the authorized user(s).

Arrival and departure days are communicated in advance and must be adhered to. The artists arrive and depart at the same time; each session begins with an orientation day, which serves to get to know the AIR programme and the surroundings, as well as to initiate institutional and intercultural exchange. The artists will receive curatorial support during their stay in Krems.

At the end of the studio residency, it is expected that it will be presented in an appropriate manner in Liechtenstein. A written report on the residency must be submitted to the AIR Programme Lower Austria before departure.

The call for applications for studio residencies in the following year is issued in spring. The next call for applications for Lower Austria, Krems will be announced in due time. Applications are open to professional artists and cultural workers who are Liechtenstein nationals or have been resident in Liechtenstein for at least five years.

The call for applications for the studio residencies is in German.
