Natural hazards

Natural hazards include all processes and effects of nature that can be harmful to people and property.

Natural disasters, even of devastating proportions, have repeatedly occurred in Liechtenstein. As settlements are becoming ever denser and material assets ever larger, the extent of damage caused by comparable natural hazards has increased considerably in recent decades. Today, attempts are therefore being made to counter the effects of natural hazards with the help of integrated risk management.

The most well-known natural hazards in Liechtenstein are floods, storms, landslides and avalanches. Forest fires are less common. Strong earthquakes are hardly known, but can also occur in Liechtenstein.

An overview of the current natural hazard situation in Liechtenstein and Switzerland can be found on this natural hazard portal.
