Avalanche service

Organization and tasks

The avalanche service was founded in the 1970s and is primarily responsible for prevention and intervention in the event of avalanches.

The members of the avalanche service are appointed by the government for a period of four years. In particular, the avalanche service is responsible for the protection of inhabited settlements, public roads and marked winter hiking trails.

During the winter months, the snow situation is constantly monitored by the core group and the necessary measurement data is collected. This results in recommendations for action and suitable safety measures, including evacuations. Depending on the measures taken, both the population and the media are informed promptly. The measures currently in place are published here.

Preventing the white danger

  • The avalanche danger throughout Europe is categorized on a scale of one to five, please refer to the current avalanche bulletin for our region.

  • Equip yourself with an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe for off-piste winter sports and adapt your behavior to the appropriate conditions.

  • Use the free training facility for avalanche transceivers at the little church in Malbun.
