Health professions / remedies

The healthcare professions practiced in Liechtenstein are governed by the provisions of the Health and Medical Practitioners Act and the associated ordinances. Information on this can be found at www.Gesetze.li

This legislation also constitutes the Liechtenstein implementation of Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of September 7, 2005 on the recognition of professional qualifications (OJ L 255, 30.09.2005, p. 22).

Subject to Art. 31 to 35, the independent practice of one of the following healthcare professions requires authorization from the Office of Public Health.

Personal responsibility exists if the healthcare profession is practiced

  • on a self-employed basis, i.e. on one's own professional responsibility and for one's own account, or
  • under their own professional responsibility as part of an employment relationship.

Practical activities in connection with the further training requirements for professional suitability must also be reported to the Office of Public Health in writing, but are not subject to authorization.

The application for a license to practice the profession must be submitted in writing to the Office of Public Health. The application must be accompanied by the documents required to prove the licensing requirements and the relevant information must be provided. The Office of Public Health may submit the application to the professional associations for a review of professional suitability. The applicant will be notified in writing after the Office of Public Health has completed its final review of the application.
