Road management
Road management with RMS road database
The Civil Engineering and Geoinformation Office is responsible for around 123 km of rural roads, of which around 103 km are asphalted.
The entire existing road infrastructure has a replacement value of CHF 500 to 600 million, depending on the type of calculation. The sustainable maintenance of this infrastructure is an extremely important factor in terms of preserving its value. This is in the knowledge that investments in our transport infrastructure are made in such a targeted manner that the best possible cost/benefit ratio can be achieved.
As a modern electronic tool for road construction and maintenance projects, the RMS road database has been available from the Civil Engineering and Geoinformation Office since 2006. In it, various road attributes are linked to digital video data of all Liechtenstein country roads and can be called up at the click of a mouse
Functions of the RMS road database
The application makes a range of functions and evaluations possible on the computer:
- Virtual driving through the individual streets (digital video film)
- Query of the road kilometer at any position
- Measurement of road widths and lengths from the video
- Height measurement of objects
- Image montage of traffic signs and guidance systems
- Display of data in the geographic information system
There are currently around 25 database topics available for a wide variety of road infrastructures. Thanks to the direct connection of the database to the digital video film, the data can be recorded directly from the office workstation.
