Field of activity

The field of activity includes counseling pregnant women, preparing pregnant women for childbirth, managing births and caring for new mothers and newborns.

Professional suitability/further training

Anyone who can prove that they have completed at least three years of training at a recognized training centre for obstetrics with a certificate of competence is qualified to practise the profession of midwife.

Special features

Midwives who have not practiced their profession for more than two years are obliged to complete a refresher course before resuming their professional activity.

She must adhere to the methods she learned at the training center for obstetrics or in continuing education courses.

In accordance with Art. 7 ff of the Health Act and Art. 43 to 45 of the Health Ordinance.
